AlphaFold2 and similar protein structure prediction tools have transformed parts of genetic research, automating structural analysis that once required months of laboratory work. Experimental validation of computational predictions, clinical genetic counseling, designing novel gene therapy approaches, and navigating IRB/regulatory processes still demand expert human geneticists. By 2027 geneticists will increasingly focus on validating and extending AI-generated hypotheses; the field is growing overall as genomic medicine expands, and AI is accelerating that growth.
